What Is Puff Embroidery?

Puff embroidery, also known as 3D embroidery, is a specialty embroidery technique that creates a raised, dimensional look by placing foam underneath the stitching. The result is a bold, premium finish that stands out from standard flat embroidery.

Puff embroidery works especially well for hats and is ideal for:

• Bold lettering

• Monograms and initials

• Simple logos

• Thick, solid shapes

Because the embroidery is raised, not every design is suitable for this technique. Thin lines, small text, intricate details, and highly detailed artwork may need to be adjusted or embroidered using standard flat embroidery instead.

For the best results, choose artwork with clean, bold elements that have enough width to support the raised stitching. If your logo contains both large and small elements, our team may recommend combining puff embroidery with standard embroidery to maintain the quality and readability of your design.

Every puff embroidery design is reviewed by our embroidery team before production. If we determine that your artwork needs adjustments for the best possible result, we'll contact you before production begins to discuss the recommended changes.

For the best results, choose artwork with clean, bold elements that have enough width to support the raised stitching. If your logo includes both large and small elements or spans multiple areas of the hat, our embroidery team may recommend combining puff embroidery on the front panel with standard embroidery elsewhere to maintain the best quality and readability of your design.

Please note that puff embroidery is only available on the front panel of hats and cannot be applied to the side panels or other curved areas, which will be done using standard flat embroidery instead.

Puff embroidery requires specialized digitizing and production techniques, so it may take slightly longer than standard embroidery. Production begins after your artwork has been approved.
